Drawers

Because the contents of drawers are hidden away and no one sees what is inside them unless they open them, it is easy to let them get cluttered or untidy. Generally, we don't pay too much attention to drawers until we need to find something. Then, we realize that we need some sort of drawer organizer. For example, a pencil drawer can soon become the pencil/ pen/ scissors/ miscellaneous notes drawer if it is not maintained.

Drawer organizers are very convenient for keeping similarly categorized items together. Drawer dividers can help you keep everything together. A drawer divider in your cutler drawer keeps your knives, forks, and spoons separate so that when it is time to set the table it is easier to find the cutler you need. You can do this with other drawers in the house as well.
The drawers should be kept in good condition in order to be put to optimal use. If a drawer glides unevenly, people tend to stop using that drawer. Sooner or later, you'll forget what is even in there! A pantry drawer can be organized also. You'll find what you are looking for much easier if you can see what is in the drawer without a lot of shuffling around. You can maintain your drawers by making sure that drawer slides are working optimally and replacing them when the gent bent or broken. Drawer hardware should be maintained as well. Sometimes when someone heaves on the drawer pull too heartily they can loosen it. Periodically, take some time to make sure your drawer pulls are firmly attached. If they are loose, tighten them with a screwdriver so that no one will get hurt if it breaks off. Antique drawer pulls should have new hardware installed and not the original installation materials.

There are other drawers in your home that should be kept organized, cleaned, and maintained. Your keyboard drawer houses a very important piece of your computer equipment. Keeping it clean will prevent your keyboard from getting filled with dust. Likewise, a microwave drawer should be cleaned out regularly to prevent a build up of dust from accumulating. Dust is never good for electronic equipment. The drawer in dishwashers should also be maintained, as it is hard to keep your cutler from falling through the cracks without it. In your office your 3-drawer file cabinet may be your main tool for keeping your home office organized. However, your home office won't be organized if your file cabinet is a mess. A good filing system with folders and labels can prevent this.

As much as drawers are essential in any home, they can be aggravating if all they do is gather clutter and chaos. If a drawer breaks unexpectedly or jams when you most need to get in it, you'll be wishing you'd paid more attention to your drawers. Use organizing dividers and maintain pulls and the drawer slides and you won't have any problems.
